Laurier F. Pelletier
TOGUS – Laurier “Larry” F. Pelletier, 77, of Leeds, passed away early Saturday morning March 18, 2023 at Togus Springs, the hospice facility at the Togus VA Medical Center with family at his side.
He was born in Lewiston on Aug. 30, 1945, a son of Alphee J. and Muguette (Berube) Pelletier. Larry was educated in Lewiston schools and remained a lifelong resident of this community.
He was a military veteran, having served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. While stationed in Thailand, he served as a Ground Radio Communications Equipment Maintenance until his Honorable Discharge. On June 20, 1970, he married Jeannette P. Giard at Holy Cross Church and together they settled in Auburn, then Greene and eventually Leeds to raise their son.
Larry first worked for a time at Al’s Sports Center and then worked for his father building houses. He later went on to work a long contracting career and eventually for R & R Construction as a finish carpenter and foreman until his retirement at the age of 62. He was known in the construction industry as a master craftsman. As a highly regarded employee, upon his retirement, the company gave him his dream vacation trip to Alaska.
Larry and Jeannette are members of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Sabattus. Being the outdoorsman that he was, he enjoyed skiing in his younger years, hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, four-wheeling, woodworking, and wood turning.
He also was a terrific shooter of black powder guns, winning many competitions over the years. But perhaps, his favorite hobby was everything to do with airplanes. He built and flew many RC airplanes over the years and even designed and built his own stunt plane models. Later he was a member of the “Old Geezers” primitive gun club where at his last shoot he won “Top Gun” for the day.
He loved spending time with family and building or repairing anything and everything for them. He was a loving, devoted and hardworking husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.
He leaves behind his wife of 52 and 1/2 years, Jeannette Pelletier of Leeds; his son, Jeff Pelletier and wife Amy of Leeds; his two granddaughters, Jillian and Abigail Pelletier; two sisters, Carol Schulz and husband Bill of Cleveland, Ohio and Sandy Tufts and husband Bill of Buckfield, one brother, Vince Pelletier and wife Bonnie of Biddeford; and many cousins; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Alphee and Muguette Pelletier; as well as many aunts and uncles.
At his prior request, there is no visitation. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Rosary on Saturday March 25 at 11 a.m.
Interment will take place at a later date at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
