To the Editor:

The members of the Rotary Club of Bethel are excited to be planning for our upcoming events and activities. We invite you to mark your calendars and support/attend these!

Coming right up is our Spring Breakfast on Sunday, April 2 in a brand new location – the GraceNote Inn & Spa at 174 Mayville Rd., Bethel. We are bringing this back after a three-year hiatus due to Covid-19. There are two seatings, and we still have space left at the 10 a.m. seating. A full and delicious breakfast is available for $15 adults/$7 children (12 and under).

Tickets must be purchased in advance from either a Rotarian or at the front desk of the River View Resort. All proceeds support Rotary’s community outreach programs. Many thanks to Rotarian Brenda Blond for the use of her beautiful space and to Gould Academy, which has hosted this event for years.

Our scholarship application, which is available from the Telstar HS guidance office, has a deadline of March 24. Open to all graduating seniors who reside in SAD 44, regardless of what school they are currently attending. Alternately, applicants may request an application by contacting our scholarship chair, Dr. Kevin Finley at tkfccf@yahoo.com.

These scholarships will be awarded to seniors who have committed meaningful time to community service during their high school years and are not based on academic performance or intended course of study. Please spread the word to those who may be eligible!

Our largest fundraising event is our Annual Yardsale, which is scheduled for Tuesday, August 1 to Monday, August 7 – to be held on the lawn next to the Gem Theater on Cross St., Bethel. We are accepting donations – items in good condition with the exception of clothing, books, old computers, appliances, and sofa-beds.

To donate, please contact Rotarian Scott Hynek at 207-653-9297. Best to text message or call and leave a message. Thanks, in advance, for your donations and attending this event. The proceeds are mostly designated to our popular scholarship programs for graduating high school
seniors.

We would appreciate you marking your calendars for the Annual Rotary 5K and 1-mile event, sponsored by HealthReach Community Health Centers, which is scheduled for Sunday, September 17 at the Valentine Farm Conservation Center on the North Rd., Bethel. The event is open to both runners and walkers and a remote option is available for those who cannot make it to Bethel that day.

Registration is $15 in advance for adults and free for anyone 18 and under! The first 100 registrants will receive a commemorative amenity gift and there will be prizes and refreshments for finishers. This event’s proceeds are dedicated to supporting after-school and enrichment programs for the youth of the Bethel area.

Recent recipients of funds have been Toe, Tap & Jazz Dance School, Mahoosuc Kids Association, the Museums of the Bethel Historical Society’s summer “Mornings at the Museum” program, the Crescent Park School’s Girls on the Run program, and the Mt. Abram Ski Resort’s after school ski program for the youth of SAD 44. Great programs for sure! Registration can be completed online at www.runreg.com/bethel-rotary-5K.

Thank you for your support of and participation in the programs and events of the Rotary Club of Bethel! The success of these programs relies on your support!
