JAY – Rene Labbe, 92, a resident of Jay, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 10, 1930, in Jay, the son of Donat and Emelda (Samson) Labbe. Rene was a 1950 graduate of Jay High School. After High School Rene joined the United States Air Force and served for 4 years. On August 4, 1951, at St. Joseph in Wakefield, Massachusetts, he married Thurla Liberty. They were married for 60 years before her passing on October 4, 2011. Rene was a millwright and worked for International Paper Otis and Androscoggin Mill before retiring in 1987, he then went on to work at Bath Iron Works until his retirement in 1990. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima in Jay, a member of the Quarter Century Club, and a member of the Knights of Columbus 4^th Degree. Rene was also a member of the American Legion Post # 10 in Livermore Falls and Amvets Post # 33 in Jay. He enjoyed spending time with his family and summers at the family camp on Round Pond in Livermore. Rene is survived by his longtime companion Gertrude Richards of Livermore, his children Rosalie Labbe of Livermore, Wayne Labbe and wife Gina of Brooksville, Florida, Diolinda McGinty and husband Darren of Jay, Michele Rapp and husband Joseph of Jay, Geoffrey Labbe of Jay, Lisa Davis and husband Jim of Wilton, 14 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 4 step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Thurla, his son Joel Labbe, and his siblings Rosaire, Emile, Fernand, Joseph Leo, Evelina Caron, and Sister Claire (Sr. Thérèse d’Avila). A Mass of Christian Burial with full military honors will be celebrated at 10AM on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at St. Rose of Lima Church, 1 Church Street, Jay, Maine. Visitation will be held from 4PM to 7PM, Monday, April 3, 2023, at FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine. Members of the military organizations will meet at the funeral home at 6:15 PM on Monday. Interment will be held in the spring at Holy Cross Cemetery, 445 Park Street, Livermore Falls, Maine.
