100 Years Ago: 1923

Alden M. Gayton Post Ladies’ Auxiliary is to give a masquerade dance Monday evening at Auburn Hall. Music is to be by Morrill’s orchestra. The committee includes Mrs. Maude Starkey, Mrs. Mary Williams. Mrs. Marie LaRose, Miss Marion Gullifer, Mrs. Mildred Finnie. Mrs. Flora Rollins, and Miss Deborah McDonough.

50 Years Ago: 1973

(AP wire photo) Major Robert Biss relates to reporters at a press conference in Bangor Friday how he was tortured and beaten while prisoner in North Vietnam. He was a prisoner for more than six years. Biss is a resident of Brewer.

25 Years Ago: 1998

Theater students at Bates College will stage the seventh annual Solo Performance Evening at 10 pm Wednesday at Schaeffer Theatre. The public is invited to attend free, although the audience is invited to make donations of canned goods to the food bank.
