100 Years Ago: 1923

The second annual banquet of the Business and Professional Women’s club was held at the DeWitt last evening, 69 attended. Miss Rose D. Nealley was toastmistress, and those who responded were Mrs. Kitty Barker, Miss Lilli Herling, Miss Mabel S. Merrill, Miss Carrie Wills, Mrs. E. E. Parker and Dr. Lucy Desaulniers. The Auburn trio played throughout the banquet.

50 Years Ago: 1973

There are still over 500 dogs unlicensed for the present year in Auburn, and beginning tomorrow, Auburn Dog Officer Louis Pinette and his assistants will begin knocking on doors, to find ’em.

Auburn City Clerk Leroy E. Linnell said today that records show there are 531 unlicensed dogs in the city. Dog owners annually must register their animals by Apr. 1, a date which has just passed. The list of unlicensed dogs was turned over to Pinette today.

25 Years Ago: 1998

The Maine Audubon Society will hold a nature walk, “Nature’s Tricks,” at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Gilsland Farm Environmental Center. Those participating will learn what tricks various plants and animals employ to protect themselves from predators.
