Leonard R. Bourgoin

LEWISTON – Leonard R. Bourgoin passed away unexpectedly from coronary heart disease on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at the age of 63. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him for his infectious smile, sense of humor, and his willingness to selflessly help anyone and everyone.

His early career as an electrician at AC Electric had him traveling to New York and Virginia and maintaining sonar instruments on military ships. When he and his wife, Debbie, were ready to grow their family, he stopped traveling and they set roots together in Sabattus.

In 1985, Len and Deb welcomed Nathan. He will forever be his father’s son in speech and mannerisms. In 1988, their tomboy princess joined them. Danielle will always be daddy’s little girl.

All the while, Lenny acquired his master electricians license and became electrical supervisor at L.L. Bean. He worked there for 30-plus years until taking an early retirement.

Unwilling to stop working, he once again “put on his toolbelt”. He continued to work part time until his passing.

Lenny counted fishing, hiking, motorcycling, and kayaking among his favorite hobbies. His lifelong love of hockey was punctuated with events like co-captaining the Saint Dom’s championship hockey team in 1978 and being inducted into the Saint Dom’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2022.

Anyone who knew Lenny will remember him as a great father, amazing grandfather, wonderful husband, and a good friend with an infectious smile and easy banter.

Len is survived by his wife, Debbie; son, Nate, his wife Jen; daughter, Danielle Stout, her husband Steve and their three boys, Logan, Silas, and Quinn. Additionally, mother Pauline (Mercier) Bourgoin; sister, Dorise Ouellette and husband Gerald, sister, Lucie Tibbels and husband Geoff, sister, Michelle Pettengill and husband Greg, brother, Rene Bourgoin; Nancy Bourgoin-Kenny (former wife of predeceased brother Denis); a multitude of nieces, nephews; grandnieces, and grandnephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Bourgoin; and brother, Denis Bourgoin.

Len’s wish, in lieu of burial, is to have his family spread his ashes in the places he loved most. Additionally, a tree will be planted in his honor along the Paper Mill walking trail in Lisbon.

He always said, “family is the most important thing” and to respect his wishes, the final gathering will be held privately for family by invitation only.
