PARIS — Representatives from Flycatcher corporation of Falmouth will attend the next Select Board meeting April 24 to discuss a proposal to place a large solar farm on the site of the old town dump on Hathaway Road.

The project would cover 8 acres that is unused by the town, Town Manager Dawn Noyes said. The lease would be for 35 years, with the town earning more than $11,000 the first year. Noyes estimated that the town will earn more than $500,000 during the life of the project. The company would be responsible for decommissioning the solar farm.

In other business, Noyes issued a reminder that the board will hold a public hearing on the 2023-24 municipal budget at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, prior to the select board meeting. Noyes said she is still making a few last-minute adjustments, but she expects to have the spending plan completed by the end of the week.

Noyes added that a public hearing on the Maine School Administrative District 17 budget is set for Wednesday. She noted that the proposed budget is an increase of $4 million.

The hearing begins at 6 p.m. at the District Central Office, 232 Main St., South Paris, in the School Board Room on the second floor.

The board agreed to host a verbal judo training session July 14. Verbal judo teaches people how to de-escalate tense situations by using methods such as empathy, dignity and respect.

While this is being offered to Paris town officials, Noyes said residents and other officials from neighboring towns can attend the training. The cost per individual will be determined by how many people sign up.

The board awarded the mowing contract for parks and town cemeteries to A and A Property Maintenance, the same company that handled the mowing last year.

The board unanimously agreed to renew the liquor license for The Hydrant at 187 Main St.

Norway Paris Solid Waste will begin charging customers for brush disposal beginning May 1. The charge will cover expenses only.
