Linwood E. Richards

LEWISTON – Linwood E. Richards, 89, a longtime resident of Jay, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2023, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, surrounded by his family. He was born June 12, 1933 in Chesterville, the son of Lloyd and Mary (Batchelder) Richards. He attended school in Wilton and Jay. Linwood proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. On January 17, 1953 at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay, he married his wife of 70 years, Geraldine Pare of Livermore Falls. They made their home and raised their family in the home that Linwood built in 1962. Linwood worked at Oxford Paper and Boise Cascade for 35 years until his retirement in 1992. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay, member of the American Legion Post #10 in Livermore Falls and the Oriental Star Lodge #21 A.F. & A.M. Linwood loved anything to do with the outdoors, hunting moose, deer, turkeys, partridge, ice fishing, open water fishing, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, spending time at their camp in Moosehead and he even enjoyed putting up his wood for the winter. He and Geraldine traveled all the United States including Hawaii and three spectacular trips to Alaska. He will be remembered as a hard worker with good work ethics, and a devoted, respected, and loving family man. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Geraldine Richards of Jay, three sons, Michael Richards and wife Sheila, Daniel Richards and companion Alison, all of Farmington, and Ronald Richards and wife Peggy of Jay, his daughter, Nancy Dumeny and husband Rick of Jay, 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, his sister, Lois Fortier and husband Roger of Jay and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service with full military honors will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, April 13, at FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine. Visiting hours 4-7 p.m., on Wednesday, April 12, at the funeral home. Interment Stubbs Mill Cemetery, East Jay Road, Jay, Maine.
