Frederick Stephen Drottar
LISBON FALLS – Frederick Stephen Drottar, 87, of Lisbon Falls, Maine, peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by his loved ones, on March 31, 2023. He was born on April 30, 1935 to Stephen and Ann (Zinchak) Drottar in Lisbon Falls, Maine.
He graduated from Lisbon High School in 1953, where he was known as a standout athlete. He went on to study and earned his bachelors degree in civil engineering at the University of Maine at Orono. He went to work at Alonzo J. Harriman Associates in 1958 as a professional civil/structural engineer for 22 years. He then continued his engineering career at Maine Yankee for 17 years, until his retirement.
On June 21, 1958 he married his high school sweetheart, Dianne Whittier. They shared nearly 65 wonderful years together, in Lisbon Falls, where they raised their four children.
In 1969, Fred and Dianne bought a pop-up camper and embarked on a cross country adventure with their kids. They had a memorable seven week trip visiting many of the lower 48 states and Canada.
Known as Ted to some and Fred to others, he was a social person and he saw the good in everyone. He was an avid fisherman, sharing many memories with his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time at his camp on Thompson Lake where he would toast sunsets on the dock, go out fishing on the lake and was often found wandering the woods, foraging for mushrooms and gathering dry wood for campfires.
One of the joys of his life was coaching youth sports. His love of basketball and baseball showed in his dedication to the many teams he coached where he emphasized sportsmanship and fun.
Gardening was another hobby that he enjoyed. He would frequently be found, long past sunset, weeding, watering or gathering produce.
Besides his parents, Fred was predeceased by his daughter Lisa and brother Steve.
He leaves behind his wife Dianne of Lisbon Falls, sons Frederick (Rick) Drottar and his wife Sophia of Lisbon, Jeffrey Drottar of Westbrook, daughter Christine Cormier and her husband Scott of Durham, grandson Matt and wife Jen, grandson Ryan, grandson Zachary and wife Jessica, granddaughters Sarah, Lauren and Megan.
