Richard R. Belanger

ROCKLAND – Richard R. Belanger, 75, passed away at his home in Rockland on April 4, 2023. He was the son of Raymond F. and Rosamonde (Michaud) Belanger. Richard was born in Lewiston and attended local catholic schools. He graduated from Boston University with a degree in Broadcasting and Film in 1969. He worked at Channel 8 television in Poland Springs, Maine, for a few years and then moved to Indiana to produce documentaries. 

Richard joined the National Guard in college, transferring to the Naval Reserve after a few years, and eventually to the Army Reserve. He entered the military full time in 1981 as an Army captain. He was stationed in Germany for over four years and returned to work in personnel at an Army Reserve Center in Connecticut. Richard left active duty and worked for the Army as a civil employee both in Connecticut and New Hampshire. He retired from the military as a lieutenant colonel. He and his wife Lezlie moved to Rockland in 2007.

Richard was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by Lezlie, his wife of 51 years; daughter Danielle and her husband Charley Lind; son Zepherim; sister Rachel; brother Robert and his wife Pauline; grandsons, Noah, Eli, and Aidan; and many cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Holy Family Church, 607 Sabattus Street, Lewiston.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard’s name to the Good Shepherd Food Bank

of Maine.
