Dale E. Hanscom

SOUTH PARIS – Dale E. Hanscom, 84, of Poland, passed away on April 13, 2023 at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris. Dale was the son of Harold and Helen (Thurston) Hanscom.

He was born in Lewiston and attended school in Mechanic Falls. Dale joined the Air Force after high school and proudly served for 20 years. He met and married his wife, Lucy on Jan. 23, 1960, early in his military career. Dale enjoyed traveling the world and telling stories about his buddies and their experiences.

Dale was a lifelong car racing enthusiast. His nickname was “speed” in his younger years and he attended racing events all over the east coast whenever possible. Dale even attended a Racing School in Wisconsin for fun after his retirement. Dale’s passion for cars led him to a post military career as a mechanic in the Lewiston-Auburn area until his retirement.

Dale was a dedicated husband, father and friend. He loved having people over for a meal, to watch a race or to just “shoot the breeze”. His sense of humor, love of animals and willingness to help out anyone will be missed.

Dale is survived by Lucy, his wife of 63 years; daughter, Judy and husband Michael Wolfe, daughter, Donna Boudin, son, Dale Jr and wife Susie Holstrom; granddaughters, Jessica and Grace Wolfe; brother, Lee Hanscom; good friends, Ivy, Ed and Peter; and many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Maine Veterans Home (South Paris) and the Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice for their care and kindness during Dale’s final days.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Chandler Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 26 West Dwinal Street, Mechanic Falls. Online condolences may be shared with his family at http://www.chandlerfunerals.com.
