John A. Hackett

AUBURN – John A. Hackett, 90, of Oxford, died Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Androscoggin Hospice House, in Auburn. He was born in Derby, Maine, on Nov. 25, 1932, the son of Lorenzo and Evelyn (Brown) Hackett.

John married Barbrah Ladd on Dec. 22, 1955. He was a veteran on the United States Army 101 Airbourne division.

John attended the University of Maine Orono where he attained his bachelor’s degree, he then continued his education at New York University where he received his master’s degree in electrical engineering. He worked for Bell Labs.

John was an architect and builder, having designed and built two camps and his own house.

John was a private pilot owning his own airplane, a Beechcraft Bonanza. One of his favorite trips was to take the family skiing by flying into Mt. Snow airport in Vermont.

He enjoyed going on walks, was an avid reader, and love to play in bridge tournaments, attaining the rank of Life Master.

John is survived by his children Lawrence Hackett, Terrence Hackett, and Karen LaFlamme and her husband John; grandchildren Shane and Matthew Lewis, Evyn Steger and her husband Ryan, Nicole Hackett, Adeline Williams, and Theodore Hackett; great grandchildren Levon and Rolan Steger; brother William Hackett; along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Barbrah; his parents Lorenzo and Evelyn; and a sister Margaret (Peg) Bridges.
