Valdor “Val” Ouellette

LEWISTON – Mr. Valdor “Val” Ouellette, 98, passed away early Easter morning, April 9, 2023, at d’Youville Pavilion. He was born in Lewiston on May 5, 1924, a son of Sylvio and and Alice (Bilodeau) Ouellette, was educated in Holy Family school and remained a lifelong resident of this community.

Mr. Ouellette was a military veteran having served his country in the U.S. Army until his Honorable Discharge. On Nov. 8, 1948, he married the former Theresa Marcotte at Holy Family Church and together they settled in Lewiston to raise their family. Val worked his entire career as a painting and wallpaper contractor in Lewiston-Auburn and surrounding communities and was well-known and well-respected in the business. He also painted the gold-leaf border in the church ceiling at Holy Family Church. Even in retirement, customers would still call him to do small jobs, which he would do.

After retiring, he and Theresa spent 10 relaxing years wintering in Florida. He thoroughly enjoyed shopping flea markets and yard sales and did so every chance he could. Val’s hobby was fixing and refurbishing old items and tools and selling them at the flea markets. He was a loving, devoted and hardworking husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Val leaves behind his wife of 75 years, Theresa Ouellette of Lewiston; his son Normand Ouellette and his loving daughter Denise Ouellette, both of Lewiston; a granddaughter Lori Turcotte, who visited him every Saturday morning with her dogs, and her husband John of Lewiston, and a grandson Michael Ouellette of Hudson, Fla.; a great-grandson Zackary Ouellette and great-great grandson Zeus Ouellette; two Goddaughters, Martha Mazurkiewicz and husband Dennis and Valerie Ouellette; a cousin Constance Couture of Florida; many nieces and nephews; and special friends Dan Beaudoin, his flea market buddy, Anne Servidio, who was like a daughter to him, Jolie and Gary Boulet who would check in on him when needed, and Pam and Eric Marenghi, all of Lewiston.

He was predeceased by his parents Sylvio and Alice, two brothers Lucien and Paul, two sisters Lucille (Sr. St. Helen) and Theresa Wright, in-laws Albert and Emilie Marcotte and his dog Nikki and cat Sam.

The family would like to thank the special nurses of 3-East and staff at d’Youville Pavillion who offered excellent and loving care to Valdor during his stay of almost one year. Also the nurses of Androscoggin Hospice Care who provided compassionate care during his last week.

At his prior request, a private Memorial Service will take place at the convenience of the family.
