“Maxi’s Secrets” by Winthrop author Lynn Plourde is this year’s book pick for the third annual Lewiston/Auburn Community Read with the Lewiston and Auburn public libraries.

A community read event is a shared reading experience where members all read one book. By having access to and reading the same book, it further builds one’s depth of community in the cities by a shared act. Parents, business owners, students and community members can discuss the book and the thoughts it brings forward while building a culture of literacy, according to a news release from Sarah Hartje at the Lewiston library.

A “Maxi’s Secrets” youth book club is scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesdays, May 2 and 16, in the Children’s Department at the 200 Lisbon St. library. Both programs will include snacks, and each participant will receive a free copy of the book to keep.

This program is recommended for those 10 and older; no registration is required.

The Lewiston/Auburn Read with Plourde will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20, in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston library. There will be an author talk, food, book giveaways and signings, and activities for kids related to this year’s community read books. This event is for all ages, and no registration is required.
