Lincoln County Historical Association is taking registrations for its annual day camp, “Summer with the Past: Discovering 18th and 19th Century Art, Crafts and History,” for children ages 7-11.
Sessions are scheduled for June 26-30 at the Chapman-Hall House in Damariscotta and Aug. 7-11 at the 1811 Old Jail and Museum in Wiscasset.
Campers will be introduced to the unique history of each site and can experience a variety of projects and games popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. The activities include art and textile projects and unique crafts.
In support of summer reading, each child can choose an historical theme book to borrow for the week. The books have been selected for their historical themes and/or relevance to Maine, according to a news release from the association.
Summer with the Past was designed by Louise T. Miller, LCHA education director. The program’s goal is to provide children with a greater understanding of the unique history of Lincoln County and the people whose skills were part of that history.
Registration is required. Details and registration information can be found online at lincolncountyhistory.org. Early registration is encouraged, because space is limited.
