A Chelsea man who fell into a fire pit last month and sustained burns to more than 45% of his body died Tuesday as a result of his injuries, according to a news release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Augusta Rescue personnel responded to a home on Dr. Mann Road in Chelsea at 6:33 p.m. April 26 where they found Daniel Albert, 68, had fallen in a fire pit. A family member had discovered him and called 911, according to Shannon Moss, spokeswoman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Albert was treated for burns to his body and transported to a local hospital before being flown by LifeFlight of Maine helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland, she wrote.
He was still in the hospital undergoing treatment when he died at about 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, about three weeks after he was injured.
