ANDOVER — At Laurie and Howard Bailey’s Andover farm, whether a doeling or a buckling the kids’ names follow a familiar theme: Moon Beam, Moon Fire, Moon Shine, Moon Field, Moon Flurry, Moon Shadow, Moon Crown, Moon Tide and Moon Flame were all born at Moon Dance Farm.
However one new kid breaks the mold. She is Jolene; her mother is Dolly Parton. Jolene was born with a wattle, a hair-covered bit of flesh hanging from her neck.
Many families visited the farm on two recent weekends. This year there was a special visit by four sisters who reserved time at the end of the day for their mother, who has Alzheimer’s Disease. They were excited, they told Laurie Bailey, but were not sure how it would go. “It was phenomenal'” said Bailey, “she was so happy and bright. My mother had dementia and has been gone a few years now. It was special for me to take part in the intimacy of that moment, too.”
The Bailey’s have bred goats since 2012. Currently they have twelve adults and 15 kids, with one or two on the way. Bailey makes goat cheese, yogurt and milk. When the families come, photographer, Craig Angevine, the Baileys’ son, captures the goats and their cuddlers.
