LEWISTON — A man suffered minor burns early Thursday after two sheds on his Spring Street property went up in flames.
Fire crews were called about 1 a.m. to 51 Spring St. where they found one shed engulfed by fire and another burning. The intensity of the fire damaged the home and a building next to the sheds, but fire crews were able to stop the flames before they spread to nearby structures.
“The rapid response and effective tactics prevented the fire from gaining a foothold into the other properties, preventing hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage,” Lewiston Assistant Fire Chief Mark Anderson said.
The sheds sit behind the two-story home, which sits between another home and a cluster of concrete buildings housing a manufacturing company.
Investigators said the man who lives in the home had been pouring gas into a generator when the fire began. The cause of the blaze was listed as an improper fueling technique.
The man suffered burns and was treated at the scene, refusing transport to the hospital, Anderson said.
