BETHEL — At school board last week, Superintendent, David Murphy confirmed that Senator Angus King is scheduled to speak at Telstar’s graduation on Friday, June 9.
King’s Press Secretary Zachary Holman, in a call from his Washington D.C. office confirmed the visit, too. “It’s one of his favorite things to do every year,” said Holman, because he knows it is one of the happiest days for the students.
He usually gives a speech titled: Ten Things I wish I Knew at Your Age. Said Holman, “The 10 things are not always the same thing. It’s a little bit of a surprise. There will be 10 pieces of good folksy wisdom ranging from broad concepts to some very specific things. It’s always fun seeing what he thinks is pertinent on a given day.”
He said King is scheduled to speak at six graduations – a mix of high schools and colleges across the state. He’ll be at graduations in Wells and Old Orchard Beach this year, as well. Holman recalled a time when he took a ferry to see five or six students graduate on an island.
Holman said he doesn’t have a hard schedule, so they will ‘play it by ear’ as to how long he will stay in town.
