• Fly Fishing Lesson for Beginners, Tuesday, May 30: Arrive at Pine Grove Lodge at 9 a.m. Learn the basics of fly identification, water reading, gear options and fly casting. Then, practice and put skills to work on the private pond to try to catch a rainbow trout. Lunch is included. No tackle or license is needed, unless the participant wants to fish the local Kennebec River after the lesson. Email info+mgsnowshoes.com@ccsend.com for more information or if interested in signing up.
• Great Pond Tribute to Service Fishing Event, Tuesday, June 13: Early morning start times are staggered; people return for late lunch and gathering approximately at 1 p.m. Day is done by 3 p.m. Participants will begin at the Belgrade Center for All Seasons at 1 Center Drive. Water bottles will be provided upon check-in; bring any snacks, medication, fishing license, sunglasses and camera/phone. Hop into a boat of a volunteer “guide.” This is not a derby for prizes, only for fun; an honor system will be used to award trophies at the luncheon after the days fishing. To register, email info+mgsnowshoes.com@ccsend.com.
Organizers are still looking for more volunteer boaters; email info@pinegroveprogram.com.
• Canceled: Third annual Patriot Ride, Saturday, Aug. 5, not a fundraiser: A day of riding; lunch provided at a half-way point, and a barbecue provided at the day’s end. More information is to come.
