SKOWHEGAN — A Somerset County grand jury has handed up indictments against a Palmyra couple, charging them with operating a methamphetamine laboratory and endangering the welfare of a child, court records show.

Jessica Quimby, 44, and Joseph R. Quimby, 41, were indicted by the grand jury last week on charges of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, unlawful operation of a methamphetamine laboratory, three counts of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and endangering the welfare of a child.

Joseph Quimby was indicted on an additional count of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs.

The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant in October 2022 at 115 and 135 Wyman Road in Palmyra. Officials suspected methamphetamine, a powerful, highly addictive stimulant that affects the central nervous system, was being produced at the properties, which officials said are owned by Jessica and Joseph Quimby.

Police in the raid seized several grams of methamphetamine, several grams of fentanyl, 69 Suboxone strips, two firearms, meth lab production products, drug paraphernalia and $160 in cash, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The pair were arrested during the search on drug-related charges and officials said they removed children from the scene.

Another man, Matthew Flanders, 36, of Athens was also arrested at the scene on a Class C charge of operating after revocation.

An indictment is not a determination of guilt, but indicates enough evidence exists for a case to move forward to trial.
