Senior, Daxx Williams and Junior, Eric White traveled to the University of Maine at Orono on Wednesday, May 17th to participate in the Maine All-State Music Festival, working for 3 days under the direction of Dr. Z. Randall Stroope and Dr. Rachel Cornacchio. Dr. Stroope, director the SATB (mixed voices) chorus, guest conducts and composes full time in Florida and New Mexico, after having been Professor of Music at three different universities. Dr. Cornacchio, director of the SSAA (treble voices) chorus, serves as Associate Professor of Music and Director of Music Education at Messiah University in Pennsylvania.
The All-State process begins for students back in September, as they work to prepare an Italian Art Song, their voice part of a madrigal, a scale, and sight singing, which they perform for two judges in early December. When completed, the students’ performance scores are used to select the highest achievers to form a 150-voice SSAA and a 240-voice SATB chorus.
At the event, Eric White auditioned and was chosen for a small group that was featured in the piece, “My God is a Rock.”
