CANTON — Two men were reportedly shot Sunday at a residence on Canton Point Road.
The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police and the Rumford Police Department responded to the home at 7:30 p.m. to a report of a male suffering from gunshot wounds, according to a written statement from Oxford County Sheriff Christopher Wainwright.
Authorities discovered a 45-year-old male with two gunshot wounds to his hip. He was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston for treatment. The injuries are not considered life-threatening, Wainwright said.
Officers later received a report of a second person arriving at CMMC with a gunshot wound that was not considered life-threatening to his leg.
The injuries to the two men are believed to be related to the same incident, Wainwright said.
The names of the victims have not been released.
The suspects, described as three Black men, fled the scene. They were operating a silver sedan. A person of interest has been identified and there is no perceived threat to the public, Wainwright said.
This appears, at this time, to be an isolated incident, he added, and the investigation is ongoing.
