100 Years Ago: 1923

Vice President and Mrs. Calvin Coolidge and their two sons will accompany the Governors of the New England States to Maine on their vacation trip the latter part of this month. The party also will include the wives, secretaries and staffs of the governors. They will pass a day or two at Poland Spring, arriving there on June 29th, then motor to Rockland. Returning to Poland Spring by way of Augusta the next day, they will be luncheon guests of Governor Percival Baxter at Blaine House, the executive mansion. They also will visit Lewiston and Auburn and be tendered an informal reception at Bates College.

50 Years Ago: 1973

Seventy-eight young people, among them 14-year-old Thomas Connell of Lewiston, an eighth grader at Holy Cross School, participated in the 46th annual National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., today.

25 Years Ago: 1998

Shortly after 1:30 this afternoon, Auburn police provided an escort to the Central Maine General Hospital for a vehicle containing an injured youngster. Patrolman Toby Tiner provided the escort for eight-year-old Daniel Martin of Hartford, who reportedly fell off his bicycle and suffered facial injuries.
