NORWAY — The Norway High School Alumni Association will hold its final gathering July 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in Paris.

The group is comprised of those who attended the school on Main Street before the town joined the Oxford Hills School District in 1961. Their last banquet was in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Association member Julie Billings Crane said the group will disband after this last gathering.

“It’s been self-sustaining but with no new members joining, it’s becoming harder to organize,” she said. “Our last, there were about 200 attending. But fewer and fewer are able to make it each year. The youngest graduates who went to high school in Norway are now entering their 80s.”

The informal gathering will include light snacks and punch, and is free.

“We will donate any money left in the account after July 15 to the Norway Historical Society,” Crane said. “It houses a lot of our school’s memorabilia already — class rings, school clothing and yearbooks. We want to support the steward of our school history.”

The most recent Norway High School was built back in 1929, and is still in use as Guy E. Rowe Elementary School.

The decision to disband comes one year after the South Paris High School Alumni Association did the same. It donated its final account balance to Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School’s Dollar for Scholars program.
