Elizabeth Murphy
LEEDS – Elizabeth “Liz” Murphy, Boston Post Cane holder in recognition of her love for her community as Leeds’ oldest resident, entered eternal life surrounded in love by her family on the morning June 14, 2023. LIz was born August 27, 1927, the daughter of Royal S. and Edwina Pratt Stevens. She lived her 95 years of life setting the example of a fierce love for family.
Liz graduated from Monmouth Academy in the class of 1945. On April 30, 1947, she married Keeran “Joe” Murphy. Liz and Joe spent a lifetime maintaining basic family values and demonstrating the importance of being kind to people. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Winthrop.
Liz retired in 1987 following a dedicated 22-year career from Tech-tech in North Monmouth. Liz gave back to the community of Leeds serving the Leeds Central PTA, and Board of Directors for Monmouth Federal Credit Union. Her lifetime included membership in the Leeds Historical Society and Leeds Center Cemetery Association. Liz was a successful competitive bowler. Her bowling accomplishments include 2012 inductee to the Maine State United States Congress Bowling Hall of Fame; 1999 America Award by the Maine State Bowling Association; and 1988 Twin City Bowling Hall of Fame inductee.
Liz celebrated her family on a daily basis and looked forward to daily visits by sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at the Leeds Curtis Corner family homestead. Liz held her two new great-great-grandchildren in the final weeks of her life. Prior to her passing, Liz enjoyed the blessings of spending time with all of her grand and great-grandchildren including those arriving from California and Texas in her final week.
Liz is survived by sons K. Timothy Murphy and partner Robin Winant of Leeds and K. Trent Murphy and his wife Debbie of Monmouth; a daughter-in-law Alice Murphy of Leeds; daughters-in-law Jean Roan, Marie Murphy, and Diane Murphy; two sisters June Hustins of Burlington, Mass. and Connie Bates and her husband Harrision of Winthrop; eight grandchildren K. Jonathan Murphy and wife Rochelle, Kyle Jeffrey Murphy and wife Shearon of Winthrop, Katina Jae Griffin of Mill Valley, Calif., Samantha Murphy, Tamara Barry and her husband Joel, Kevin Daniel Murphy and his wife Jaimie, and K. Joseph Murphy of Leeds. Abby Marshall and David Marshall, she loved as grandchildren for the past 12 years.
Liz’s 11 great grandchildren keep the Murphy family memories growing: Emily and her husband Ryan Urquhart, Shane Murphy and fiance Elizabeth Lunt, Karlee and husband Brett Gravel, Isaac Barry and partner Delaney Houston, Francisca and Maracella Gnipp, Anabeth and Aerilyn Murphy, Camryn Murphy, Katina Murphy and Landon Nagy.
Completing the family for Liz are eight double great grandchildren: Blake, Elsie, Brodrick Murphy, Emma and Mason Lunt; Logan and Addison Urquhart; and Sadie Gravel. Many nieces and nephews continue to be part of Liz’s life. She was predeceased by her husband, Keeran “Joe” Murphy, brother Royal B. Stevens; son Keeran Thomas Murphy; and a grandson Keeran James Murphy. In laws, John and Dorothy C. Murphy, Eddie and Helen C. Murphy, and brother-in-law, Howard Hustins.

A graveside service and interment will take place Friday, June 16, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Leeds Center Cemetery, Route 106, Leeds, Maine. Honoring Liz’s wishes all are welcome to Leeds Center Cemetery.
