CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. – Dave Ruel, 68, of Clifton Park, N.Y., passed peacefully on June 8, 2023 with his wife and daughter by his side. Dave was born on April 30, 1955, in Lewiston, Maine to Fern Bruneau and Maurice Ruel.
He enjoyed the ocean, especially in Maine, and boating on Lake George, was an avid swimmer and animal lover, especially of his cats, Ivory, Sophie, and Sloane. He was a big history buff, particularly of the Civil War and WWII. He enjoyed many kinds of music and watching sports such as tennis, basketball, and football and was a devout Dallas Cowboys fan. Spending time with family was his biggest passion and he enjoyed vacationing in mid-Coastal Maine during the summers.
A 1973 graduate of Lewiston High School and a 1978 graduate of UNH, Dave majored in Social Services and minored in Business Administration. Immediately after graduating from UNH, Dave worked as a counselor earning the accolade of the highest success rate in the state of Maine. After serving as an administrator in a social service agency, Dave transitioned to IT. Following a brief career as systems development analyst for Liberty Mutual, he managed Administrative Information Systems for Swarthmore College and then became Director of Administrative Computing and Enterprise Systems at Union College where he was employed for 30+ years. Dave was admired by his colleagues for his dedication to excellence in planning and executing projects and with an eye on ensuring his team could perform to their optimal potential, delivering projects on time and on budget. He cared deeply about his colleagues and took pride in helping them succeed in every area of their personal and professional lives.
Left to cherish his memory include his ever-devoted wife, Barbara Ruel of Clifton Park; loving daughter Erin Konchanin of New York City; and beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins in Maine and in-laws and their children in North Carolina, Kansas, and New England.
Dave was known for his kindness, compassion, great sense of humor, and generosity. He always left people laughing or smiling. To know him was to love him, and his family finds great comfort in knowing that the memory of Dave and his spirit will live on forever.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
