Lewiston residents play soccer Monday at the Franklin Athletic Complex at Lewiston High School. The Lewiston City Council will hold a public hearing at its meeting Tuesday to discuss the possible closure of the playing fields to the public. Entrances to the complex have been locked to discourage use of the school’s baseball field, football field and running track. The gates to the high school tennis courts have remained open. Bakar Ibrahim, second from left, said he understands youths are being encouraged to play soccer at McGraw Park at 280 Bartlett St. instead, but tall grass, mud and dog waste make it less than ideal for playing soccer. Despite “no dogs allowed” signs at McGraw Park, people are often seen with their dogs inside the park. From left are Seidou Abdoulaye, Ibrahim, Maslah Abdi, Suleiman Ilmi and Khalid Mohammed.
