LEWISTON — Police tracked down the driver of an SUV early Thursday night after a man was struck by the vehicle near Hillview Apartments on Rideout Avenue.

Police, fire and rescue crews were called to the area about 7 p.m. after the crash was reported by witnesses. When crews arrived, they found the man lying unconscious in the street but no sign of the vehicle that struck him.

Lewiston firefighters responded to the scene along with paramedics from Auburn Rescue. The man was taken to Central Maine Medical Center to be evaluated. His injuries were not considered life threatening.

Later Thursday, police tracked down a juvenile believed to have been driving the car along with another teenager. They were being questioned by police.

It was the third pedestrian accident in less than a week in Lewiston. On Friday, June 17, pedestrian Bruce Martin, 35, of Lewiston, was the victim of a hit-and-run around 9 p.m. near 855 Lisbon St., police said. Martin was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland where he was listed in serious condition.

The same day, another man was struck and killed by a commercial vehicle on Main Street. Police said the unidentified 64-year-old local man intentionally stepped into traffic.
