Adell E. Hunnewell

AUBURN – Adell E. Hunnewell, 95, and longtime resident of Auburn, passed away Tuesday morning June 20, 2023 at The Bolster Heights Residential Care Facility with family at her side.

She was born in Lewiston on Dec. 15, 1927, one of four children born to Harold and Irene (Chase) Rice. Adell was educated in Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1946. On Aug. 7, 1964, she married John W. Hunnewell and together they settled in Auburn to raise their family.

Adell’s first job was at Seavey’s Drug Store and then she worked for years in Auburn shoe manufacturing shops. When her first of three children was born, she stayed home and worked to raise the kids and maintain the home. Being a lady of strong faith, she was a longtime and active member of the Minot Avenue Baptist Church and later the Faith Baptist Church.

Among her favorite enjoyments were time with her grandchildren, dining out, and doing crafts, especially with her friends from church.

Adell was a loving, devoted and hardworking wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, John W. Hunnewell; a brother, Harold Rice Jr. and a sister, Minnie Beckham.

She leaves behind three children, Kathy Hamel of Lewiston, Belinda Haskell and husband Carl of Minot and Stephen Hunnewell and wife Dawn of New Gloucester; six grandchildren, Joshua Hamel, Tyler Haskell, Leah Parkhurst, Travis Haskell, Matthew Hunnewell and Jason Hunnewell; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris McDonald of Portland; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation Fortin Group, Auburn, Monday June 26 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 12 p.m.

Committal to follow at Pine Street Cemetery.
