LISBON — Police are searching for the driver of a dark-colored SUV after an 11-year-old boy on a bicycle was struck in a crosswalk Tuesday evening at the intersection of Routes 9 and 196, said officials.
Police and Lisbon Emergency Medical Services responded around 4:30 p.m.
Lisbon Police Chief Ryan McGee said the boy was evaluated, but did not require medical attention. Family members picked up the child and his damaged bicycle shortly after.
McGee said officers believe the boy was riding his bike across the Route 9 crosswalk as the traffic light turned green and the vehicle pulled ahead clipping the front tire of the bicycle.
The vehicle, an older dark-colored SUV with a white left rear quarter panel, did not stop and continued east toward Topsham. The operator was described as an older white male, said McGee.
“We’re checking for video in the area,” McGee said. “We just want to talk to the person. It could have been a complete accident.”
Police are asking witnesses to the accident or anyone with further information on the dark-colored SUV and its driver to call 207-353-2500 ext #1.
