Lewiston School Committee member Elizabeth Eames raises a cup of lemonade Thursday to members of the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council outside The Store Next Door at the Longley School, 145 Birch St. in Lewiston. Council members offered free lemonade to anyone who donated school supplies or hygiene products to the resource center for homeless youth during Drink Lemonade and Donate to School Aid. “We want to help teens start the school year in the fall with the supplies they need,” council member Zara Bimbi said. “We want Lewiston youth to know that others care,” added Asha Abdisamad. “We have kids stop by every single day looking for supplies,” store Director Jamie Caouette said. “We handed out sneakers for kids on a zip line field trip that did not have sneakers and items for a hiking field trip just last week,” Caouette said. The Store Next Door accepts donations from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Eames and her son, Nimal Eames-Scott, right, made a donation in exchange for lemonade. Daryn Slover/Sun Journal
