Barbara Smith Baker

WELD – Barbara Smith Baker, 63, died Wednesday July 5, 2023, at the Hospice House in Auburn. She resided in Weld.

Barbara was born in Rumford, on June 2, 1960, and was the daughter of Karl and Fay (Bartlett) Smith. She was a graduate of Rumford High School class of 1978 and the University of Maine at Orono. She owned and operated the Red Hill Natural Food Store and worked for Boise Cascade Paper Mill as a Production Planner. She and her husband Denis enjoyed mountaineering in Nepal and the Cascades, skiing at Sugarloaf and Tahoe, backpacking the A.T. from Maine to Georgia, kayaking to Isle au Haut, and photographing it all.

Barbara was married in Rumford, on Feb. 11, 1989, to Denis Baker who died March 31, 2019.

Survivors include her brother Darrell Smith and fiancée Kim Stowell of Omaha, Nebraska, her sister Elizabeth Smith and husband Peter Joyce of Reno, Nevada, her nieces, Lena Smith and Alyssa Davidson, her nephews Bartlett Smith and Matthew Davidson, her sister-in-law Monique Davidson and husband John, and her best friend Sue Everett.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Friday July 14, 2023 at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., Rumford. Interment will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Berlin, N.H.
