Frieda Abbott Roy

WATERVILLE – Frieda Abbott Roy, of Waterville, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2023. She was 93 years young. Frieda was born on August 14, 1929, the daughter of Clarence Abbott and Betsy Ross Abbott.

She attended school in Rumford, graduating from Rumford High School in 1948. In 1966, she and her husband of 30 years, Roger, were married. They had two children, Valerie, and Peter. The family grew to include 5 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Frieda’s first job was with Oxford Paper Company (where she met Roger!), before moving on to Chute Chemical Company, and Hannaford. She retired at the age of 77.

She enjoyed reading poetry, listening to opera, and walking. She also enjoyed family and grandchildren and visits with them on the holidays. Frieda was also an animal lover and had many dogs and cats over the years. She traveled to Scotland with her brother, Ken, and his wife Trudie, where she was able to meet her cousins.

Frieda was predeceased by her father Clarence Abbott, her mother Betsy (Ross) Abbott, her husband Roger Roy, her sister Cleora Milligan, and her brother Ken Abbott.

She is survived by a son Peter Roy, a daughter Valerie Knowles, granddaughter Chloé Curtis and her husband Brian Curtis, granddaughter Hannah Martin and her husband Jared Martin, grandson Colin Roy and his fiancée Chellsye Lewis, grandson Coleman Knowles, grandson Trent Knowles, great granddaughter Eve Curtis, great granddaughter Davina Roy, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 17, 2023, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm Street, Waterville.
