Marie Lagasse
AUBURN – Marie Lagasse, 89, of Auburn died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 30, 2023 after a courageous battle with a sudden illness.
Born on May 8, 1934 in Lille, Marie was the daughter of Patrick Gervais and Georgianna (Clavette) Gervais. She leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories and remarkable stories.
She was a kind and gentle person who always showed unconditional love to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She attended Keegan Elementary school and Van Buren High School. While in high school, she worked at Rocky’s Diner.
She married Roland Lagasse on Jan. 31, 1954 and had two children, Sandra and Daniel. Roland died unexpectedly in a car accident on Aug. 31, 1957 which left her widowed with two young children. She married Louis P. Lagasse Sr. on Oct. 11, 1962 and had three children, Louis Jr., Robert and Philippa. Louis Sr. died on April 9, 2001 after suffering a stroke.
Marie worked for Stableman shoe shop as an inspector, Melzer Moccasin shoe repair, and retired from Goodman’s Wiping Cloth after 28 years as a textile cutter. Her hobbies in the early years were camping, singing, dancing, snowmobiling and reading. As she got older she enjoyed going to Bingo, playing slots at the casino, working on crossword puzzles, playing Sudoko games and working on coloring pages on her iPad, but most of all, she loved playing cards every week with her family on “card night’’.
She is survived by her sister Anna (Gervais) MacGillivray and her husband Ronald. She also leaves behind two daughters, Sandra (Lagasse) Sieckowski, and Philippa (Lagasse) Auclair and husband Stephen, daughter-in-law, Celine (Bussiere) Lagasse; sisters-in-law, Cecile Bosse, Martha Jewett and Roselle Gervais; grandchildren Michelle Fournier, Stephanie Violette and husband Michael, Benjamin Lagasse and significant other Allison Smith, and Ryan Lagasse and wife Samantha; great-grandchildren Mark, Griffin, Hailey, Fiona, Gracie, Madden, Charlotte, Paisley, CJ, Ryan and Carson; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her three sons, Robert Lagasse, Daniel Lagasse, and Louis Lagasse Jr., son-in-law, Gary Sieckowski; and grandson, Joseph Auclair; brothers Albert Gervais, Wilbrud Gervais, Rudolph Gervais, sisters Cecile (Gervais) Lausier and Lena (Gervais) Ruest.
There will be a Funeral Mass in her honor at Holy Cross Church on Friday July 14 at 11 a.m. Graveside ceremony will be done at a later date with immediate family present.
