Carroll F. “Peanut” Ellis

AUBURN – Mr. Carroll F. “Peanut” Ellis, 86, of Dixfield, passed away Friday, July 14, 2023, at the Hospice House in Auburn with family at his side. He was born at Rumford Community Hospital on July 15, 1936, one of ten children born to C. Errold and Carlotta (Small) Ellis of Dixfield. Peanut attended Dixfield schools and graduated high school with the class of 1957. On January 18, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart, Judith Millett, and together they settled in Dixfield to raise their family. He was employed at the Rumford paper mill for nearly 40 years as a papermaker and eventually, a Supervisor on #15 paper machine until his retirement in 1997. Peanut was an avid outdoorsman who greatly enjoyed fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling (especially to the Gatsby penninsula) and was a sports enthusiast, as he loved ice hockey. He was a skilled builder who built their family home in Dixfield in 1962, as well as their family camp at Quimby Pond many years ago. During his retirement, he and Judy spent 14 winters in Florida and traveled with friends throughout the United States and Canada, including three months in Alaska, making friends at every destination they visited.

He was a man who always thrived on having fun and loved going to dances with a special group of friends for several years. Peanut was a member of the King Hiram Lodge #57, a founding member of the Dirigo Boosters Club and a founding member of the Dixfield Snowmobile Club. He loved his family dearly and was a devoted and hardworking husband, father, and grandfather, known as “Bumpa” to his grandkids, and will be dearly missed. He never missed any of his childrens’ or grandchildrens’ events. Peanut leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Judith Ellis of Dixfield; his four loving daughters, Deborah Edwards and husband John of Falmouth, JoAnne Weston and husband Reggie of Dixfield, Brenda Turbide and husband Steve of Dixfield and Barbara Swan and husband Randy of Turner; His eight grandchildren, Sheena Jackson, Nicole Johnson, Brooke Theriault, Lauren Leonard, Sarah Baker, Josh Turbide, Emily Swan and Cameron Swan; Nine great-grandchildren, Cooper and Charley Johnson, Zoe and Barrett Theriault, Reagan and Kennedy Jackson, Jack and Sophie Leonard and Camille Baker; Sister-in-law, Joyce Wasson of Westbrook and Brother-in-law, Bernard Millett of Wilton; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of the Rumford Community Home and the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn for the care and support shown to Peanut and his family during his illness.

Family and Friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Tuesday, July 25th at 11:00 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetary, 98 Weld Street, in Dixfield, which will include a Masonic ceremony.
