Scott Samuel Smith

OXFORD – It is with deep sadness that the family shares with you the unexpected passing of Scott Samuel Smith, loving husband and father, of Oxford, on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at the age of 54.

He was born in Norway on July 18, 1968. He is the son of Stephanie and Peter Allen and Jimmie and Hazel Paakkonen.

Scott graduated from Oxford Hills High School in 1986. He married Sonia Teilinen, the love of his life, on August 8, 1998 at his grandparents ‘olde farm’ in Paris. On October 7, 2004 they became the proud parents of a baby girl, Sydni Rosa.

He worked at Camp Wigwam where he and his best friend Jim McLendon made many fun memories. They also worked at Maine Wood Treaters together. Scott later worked at Ripley & Fletchers and Viking Motors in their body shops where his work was meticulous. He then started his own business, Paris Lock & Safe, and was known for his prompt and reliable service. A few years later he was hired as head maintenance for Papoose Pond Campgrounds. This was his present job, and his favorite job. He had a good work ethic- always arriving early, doing his best, and being an honest and dependable employee.

His many interests included: having cookouts, swim parties, and sledding parties for family and friends; music, Red Sox, Nascar, 4-wheeling with Sydni, hunting and fishing, truck pulls; attending Sydni’s softball, soccer, and basketball games, fishing trips to Azisochos with his dad, Jim M., and other friends (a couple years, Sonia and toddler Syd went along).

Scott was a ‘Jack-of-all-trades,’ from repairing vehicles, to very unique inventions of his own, to anything that needed fixing at his home. He was a friendly, helpful, smiling, kind, sensitive guy with an entertaining dry sense of humor. He always tried to put a smile on everyone’s face and was very sociable (even when he didn’t think he was). He was very caring and made sure others knew he cared and loved them even if he didn’t always verbalize it. Those that didn’t know him well may have seen a tough exterior, but those who knew him best experienced his BIG HEART and true ‘teddy bear’ self.

He is survived by his loving wife Sonia, his precious daughter Sydni, his parents, grandmother Ethelyn Chambers, brother Shane Smith (children Courtney, Jacob, Caroline, Abigail), sister Vanessa Smith (Mike and daughter Chloe), and Deb Emerson; a very devoted mother-in-law Doreen Merrick, sister-in-law Heather Chabot (Gerry and daughter Brittney), brother-in-law Darrell Merrick (Heidi and sons Andre and Nick), father-in-law Eric Teilinen (Bonnie), Aunt Shelley Nicholos, Aunt Debbie Peterman, Uncle Normand and Aunt Sandy Luneau, Aunt Eileen Grizzle, Uncle Larry Guilford (MaryAnn), Uncle David and Aunt Jane Smith, Aunt Connie Eastburn, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends.

He was predeceased by many grandparents, a brother Bradley Paakkonen, Uncle Jonathan Luneau, Aunt Katariina Bruneau, Uncle Randy Guilford, Uncle Bill Eastburn, cousins Jesse Luneau and Dana Colby, and his beloved dogs- Rover, Tesla, Jack, and his very special SILVIO.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Ethan and his Dad and mom, Randy and Joy, for their love, help and support during this very difficult time.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Paris Hill Academy on July 29, 2023 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm.

Arrangements are under the care of Oxford Hills Funeral Services, 1037 Main Street, Oxford. To share memories and condolences with the family, please go to http://www.oxfordhillsfuneralservices.com.
