On Monday was begun the work of dismantling the old organ in the Pine Street Congregational Church, Lewiston, preparatory to installing the new organ, the contract for which was placed several months ago with the Hook & Hastings Co., Boston.
50 Years Ago: 1973
Damage was reported light today following an unusual accident near the corner of Wood and Summer Streets, in Auburn. According to the police report a car owned by Scott S. Pierce, of Norwalk, Conn., rolled out of a driveway at 48 Summer St., crossed Wood Street, then struck the side of 40 Summer St.
25 Years Ago: 1998
As Detroit scrambles to build an electric car it can peddle to Mainers four years down the road, local teens are busy redesigning one of their own. The Blue Potato, so named for its color and lumpy appearance, is getting a makeover. Members of the Lewiston High School Electric Car Team have raised about $1,000 for the project, including a $500 grant from Central Maine Power Co. Starting in September, the group will go back to the drawing board to design a new, sleeker body for the go-cart-like chassis which is powered by two marine grade batteries and can reach speeds of up to 30 mph.
