Margaret Chapman Mansur
LEWISTON – Margaret C. Mansur, 79, a resident of Wales, died Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Marshwood Center in Lewiston following a long illness.
She was born on Aug. 12, 1943 in Lewiston, the only child of John “Jack” Varney Chapman, Jr. and Olive (Cook) Chapman. She attended Wales Grammar School and Lewiston High School, after which she completed her bachelor’s degree at Gorham State Teaching College and became an English teacher.
She met the love of her life, John K. Mansur of Reading, Mass., through their church in Malden, Mass., where John’s brother Richard R. Mansur and sister-in-law, Susan Mansur introduced them. Peggy and John married on Jan. 6, 1979 and were married for 42 years before his passing in 2021.
After their first child was born, Peggy left teaching to become a full-time mother and homemaker. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, gardening, puzzles, cross stitching, and crocheting. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who handled the foibles of the men in her immediate family with patience and grace.
She is survived by her son, John Matthew Mansur of Wales, son, Adam T. Mansur and wife Sarah Sillin of Ellensburg, Wash., stepdaughter, Cheryl Dudus and husband Roman of Waterford, Conn.; grandchildren, Oliver and Joanna, of Ellensburg, Wash.; sister-in-law, Susan C. Mansur of Moultonborough, N.H.; and nephew, Clark A. Mansur and wife Wendy of Moultonborough, N.H.
