Patricia (Clabby) Kelley
TURNER – Patricia (Clabby) Kelley, 92, passed away July 18, 2023 of natural causes surrounded by her family at her daughter’s home in Turner. She was born the seventh child to Patrick and Margaret (Madden) Clabby, grew up in Lewiston attending local schools and graduating from Lewiston High School in 1948.
She married Victor Kelley in April 1954, who predeceased her. They had 11 children that Patricia raised on her own. When in her 40s she enrolled in college graduating from Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute in 1981 as a Licensed Practical Nurse; during this time she continued working at Marcotte Nursing Home to support her family. Patricia was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Church in Lewiston and the Rosary Sodality. She was also a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. As a member of St Patrick’s she, along with her sisters, spent countless hours knitting, crocheting and crafting for their annual fairs that benefitted parish students attending St Dominic’s Schools.
Patricia loved traveling with her sisters to various states as well as Ireland, Canada, Bermuda and cruises to the Caribbean. She enjoyed trips with Maine Line Tours visiting many cities across the United States. As the years went by, Mom looked forward to reminiscing with old friends and her sisters on their yearly visits to Old Orchard Beach staying at Gerry Ricker’s cottage; her lifelong best friend from high school.
Patricia retired from D’Youville Pavilion (formerly Marcotte Nursing Home) and became a “full time” Nana and Great-Nana, which she loved. You would hardly see her without one of her grandchildren, taking many trips with them to visit cousins in New York and Massachusetts. She enjoyed holidays with family, having two distinct traditions – listening to WBLM on Thanksgiving Day, singing Alice’s Restaurant and a Christmas tradition of buying everyone socks, wrapping them in red and green tissue; we all knew what the gift was before opening it.
Patricia is survived by her children Patricia (Joseph) Pease of Turner, Linda (George) Dadonna of Mechanic Falls, Victor (Debbie) Kelley, Kathleen Nielsen of Latham, N.Y., Elizabeth (Robert) Osborne of Plymouth, Mass., Julia (Rick) Parker of Livermore and Frances (Stephanie von Glinsky) Kelley of Durham; her grandchildren Rebecca (Matthew) Henning of Hadley, Mass., Robbie (Jennifer) Hames of Kittery, Crystal Osborne of Carver, Mass.; Shannon Nielsen, John (Amy) Nielsen and Joel Nielsen and their father, John Nielsen all of Latham, N.Y.; Jennifer (Cim) Colby of South Paris, Jason (Tiffany Harper) Allen of San Diego, Calif., Tracy (Charlie) Urquhart of Hallowell, Jenika Kelley of Jay, Erin (Dennis Amerault) Osborne of Wareham, Mass., Cody Osborne of Pembroke, Mass., Holden (Theresa) Parker of Turner, Caulin Parker of Livermore, and Kempton von Glinsky of Durham; 25 great-grandchildren; many, many nieces, nephews; and friends.
She was predeceased by her sons John and Joseph Kelley, her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Buster Allen, son-in-law, Douglas Riopel; as well as her nine siblings, Marguerite Chandonette, Mary Bird, Catherine Landry, Julia Terpstra, Theresa Card, Bernard Clabby, John Clabby, Francis Clabby and Anne Elizabeth Clabby.
