Rotary’s theme for the 2023-24 year is “Creating Hope in the World,” a call to create and foster hope and aspiration by working for peace and mental well-being, according to a news release from the club.

The L-A Rotary Club was founded in 1917. The club raises money to support local nonprofit agencies and provide scholarships to high school graduates.

In addition, members volunteer for organizations such as the Trinity Jubilee Center, Autism Society of Maine, Maine Special Olympics, and the Salvation Army.

“People in our local communities and around the world need help overcoming problems and challenges,” said Philippon. “Rotary clubs engage in service above self by leveraging member talents and club resources to help people and communities thrive, prosper and grow.”
