LEWISTON — Steven Jorgensen, president of St. Mary’s Health System and senior vice president for Covenant Health, plans to retire Dec. 31.

He will support St. Mary’s Health System and Covenant Health as senior vice president in an advisory and consulting capacity through the end of the year.

Cindy Segar-Miller will join St. Mary’s Health System as interim president effective Sept. 1, while a formal search is conducted. She is a seasoned health care executive with a record of success in transformational leadership positions, according to a news release from Covenant Health and St. Mary’s.

Her strategies and creative solutions have earned her the reputation as being a positive change agent for small to midsize hospitals.

In making this announcement, Stephen Grubbs, Covenant Health president and CEO, noted that Jorgensen joined St. Mary’s in 2018 and has seen the health system through significant challenges. Milestones include navigating through the conversion to the EPIC electronic medical record, strong system and community leadership throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the formation of a Joint Venture with MaineHealth covering key service needs within the community, and working with the St. Mary’s Board and Leadership Team to create a new blueprint that has allowed those involved to  “reimagine” the future of the St. Mary’s Health System.

For the past 20 years, Segar-Miller has gained considerable expertise supporting a portfolio of national and international clients. Her experience includes tenure as principal for Spectrum Health Partners in Franklin, Tennessee; executive consultant for Bon Secours Mercy Health in Portsmouth and Norfolk, Virginia; as chief executive officer for Lock Haven Hospital in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania; and as CEO for Ashland Medical Center in Ashland, Pennsylvania.

Segar-Miller, a registered nurse, earned her graduate degree in health services management services and policy from New School University in Middletown, New York.
