BETHEL — Rumford moderator, Jeff Sterling guided 35 Bethel voters through a 12-minute Special Town Meeting in the Telstar High School library on Aug. 14.

The two articles on the agenda had been inadvertently omitted from the June town meeting warrant because of a copying error, explained Select Board Chair Meryl Kelly when Robert Blake of Bethel queried.

Article 2 was a request for contributions to agencies in 2024. The amount dropped slightly ($112.) from FY 2023 to $12,000 for FY2024. The groups receiving funding are: Androscoggin HHC and Hospice; Seniors Plus/WAAA; Community Concepts/WBCC and Sexual Assault Prevention.

Article 3 was a request for a total of $548,481 for employee benefits. These included health insurance; worker’s compensation; unemployment insurance; social security/FICA; retirement, MEPERS; flexible spending account; FD volunteer accident and Sick; and the health reimbursement account.

Both warrants passed nearly unanimously.

“I think our warrants need to be improved,” said Blake

“We have implemented a checks and balances process for future warrants,” said Town Manager Natalie Andrews.
