LEWISTON — Police on Saturday afternoon were investigating reports of shots fired on Pierce Street, with some rounds penetrating into a nearby apartment house.
Neighbors reported hearing a series of shots in the area of 110 Pierce St., between Birch and Walnut streets, shortly after 4 p.m. Several police officers arrived at the scene shortly after and began searching for evidence in the area.
At about 4:30 p.m., police were scouring a sidewalk in front of the three-story tenement where the shots had been reported. It was later determined that several rounds had been fired into apartments in the area of 116 Pierce St.
There was no indication at the scene that anyone had been struck by gunfire.
No further information as the police investigation got underway.
Next week, police are hosting two public forums to address public safety after several incidents of reported gunfire over the summer. The forums were planned specifically in response to the deaths of two men who were killed in a shootout on Knox Street in late July.
