100 Years Ago: 1923
The lights all over the two cities were shut off for a period of about five minutes at 11 o’clock last night on the circuits supplied by the Androscoggin Electric Co. It was stated at the powerhouse that the cause was unknown. Power was restored without further interruption during the night.
50 years Ago: 1973
William Lewis of Maple Hill, Auburn, chairman of the Auburn Planning Board, has announced that he will not seek reappointment when his five year term expires in September. Lewis, a 15-year-veteran of the APB, said he has served long enough, but added he might consider another term at a later time. He has served as chairman for the past two years.
25 Years Ago: 1998
The YMCA is planning a balloon festival dance and dance-a-thon from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Teen Center. Entry donation is $5. FMI, call Bim Gibson at 795-4095 or Laurie St. Clair at 753-0756.
