WEST PARIS — Saturday, August 12 turned out to be a great race day for the West Paris Downhill Derby. Pictured are the winners of the race from left; Liam Holland, Third Place; Steven McCann, First Place; and Ariyen Holland, Second Place. One more downhill derby race will be held this season on Saturday, September 9. If you have a child interested in racing, the Derby has cars for kids to use if they don’t have their own car. Cars are handed out on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is from 9 to 10 a.m. The races start at 10:30 a.m. Anyone is welcome to come watch the races, cheer on the kids, and enjoy a burger or hot dog from the snack shack.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
