Peter Geiger

NORWAY — Peter Geiger, editor of the Farmers’ Almanac, will present a history of the publication and highlights from the 2024 edition at Norway Memorial Library on Thursday, Sep. 14, 6:30-8 p.m. Attendees may bring copies of the Farmer’s Almanac for autographs.

Published since 1818, the retail edition of the Farmers’ Almanac provides long-range weather predictions, informative articles, planning calendars, and information on home remedies and best days to garden, fish, or quit a bad habit. Peter’s father, longtime editor Ray Geiger, began priming him for editorship at seven years old.

“As early as his 40s, it was important to my father that there be a successor, even if that person was only seven years old, and couldn’t read,” recalls Peter. “My father told me no editor had ever died under the age of 86. That sounded like a good enough reason to me.”

In the mid-1970s, shortly after graduating from Villanova University with a bachelor of science in business administration, Peter began working under his father as Associate Editor. He assisted with 16 editions, finally taking over as editor in 1994 when the elder Geiger passed the mantle to him after 60 consecutive years at the post.

Peter also serves as Executive Vice President of Geiger, his family’s fourth-generation promotional products company. The Lewiston, Maine-based business is the largest privately-owned company in the promotional products industry, and the exclusive distributor of the Farmers’ Almanac.”
