• Dillball: A shot that is inbounds and has bounced once (a live ball).
• Dink shot: A soft shot that falls into your opponent’s “kitchen.
• Falafel: A shot that falls short due to hitting the pickleball without enough power. Also known as a “dead paddle.”
• Flapjack: A midair pickleball shot that must bounce once before it can be hit during one of the first two shots of any point (the return of serve or the return of the return of serve). After the third shot, no bounce is necessary and can be volleyed (hit in midair without waiting for it to bounce first).
• Kitchen: Slang for the non-volley zone, the seven-foot section of court closest to either side of the net where you must wait for the ball to bounce once and cannot hit it out of the air.
• Volley llama: An illegal move, or fault, where a player hits a shot out of the air in the non-volley zone.
• Pickled: The equivalent of being skunked. If you lose 11-0, you, my friend, have been pickled.
