Betty F. Hertell

OXFORD – Betty F. Hertell passed away on August 21, 2023, at her home with her loving family by her side.

Betty was born in Norway on December 16, 1936, to Leon T. Truman and Fannie Heikkinen Truman.

She attended Norway schools and graduated from Norway High School in 1955. She went on to work for the New England Telephone Company as an operator and retired at the age of 55 from AT&T Telephone.

She enjoyed camping in the summer throughout New England with family and friends. She enjoyed family get togethers and going to family sporting events and getting together with her classmates for special lunches.

She was known for being a great cook, especially her turnip pie and other Finnish favorites!

Everyone that knew Betty knew of her love of shopping and her out to eat lunches with her sister at Sam’s.

She always had a way with her artistic side of cake decorating and floral arrangements.

Betty adored her kids and granddaughter and her great-grandsons, always putting them first. She was known as Mom, Gram, Mummu, Sister and Aunt, and will always be remembered for her beautiful loving smile and is always in our hearts.

Betty is survived by her children Thomas and significant other Halina, and Pamela and Senja; granddaughter, Danyelle and significant other Adam; great grandson’s Ryan and Broox; her sister, Janice and John Laselle, and brother, Eddie Truman, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Edwin, and brothers Ned and Leon Truman.

There will be a Celebration of Life at the Finnish American Heritage Society, 8 Maple Street, West Paris on Saturday, September 2, 2023, from 12-3 p.m.
