Virginia “Ginny” Louise Williamson

UPTON – Virginia “Ginny” Louise Williamson died on August 13, 2023 in her Upton home on the shores of Lake Umbagog at the age of 99. She was born Virginia Louise Henry on May 8, 1924 to Alice Nute and Joseph Henry in Bangor Maine.

She graduated with honors from Brewer High School. She married Merchant Marine Richard “Buster” Williamson on Jan 27, 1945 in Portland. The bride and groom moved to Newry and then settled in Upton. They raised two children, Dwight Williamson (predeceased) and Diane Williamson.

Through hard work and frugality, she and Buster supported their family with season rentals along Lake Umbagog, guiding/trapping and logging until their decision to become snowbirds in Lake Wales, Fla. in 1986. Among Ginny’s interests were playing cards with friends, reading, crafts and enjoying nature. Both Ginny and Buster were generous to the community including a conservative easement to Mahoosuc Land Trust of over 100 acres on the former Williamson Homestead site in Newry, Maine. Other beneficiaries included donations to American Cancer Foundation, Upton Union Church and Ladies Aid as well as Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills.

She was predeceased by her three sisters and their husbands, Alvina (Dunk) Jordan, Anne (Ray) Moulton and Mary (Nelson) Hood. She was also predeceased by her sisters-in-law and their husbands, Phyllis (Archie) Stevens and Doris (Donald) Fraser. Ginny is survived by daughter Diane Williamson; and grandchildren Pamela and Richie Williamson and Michele and Rick Bouchard. Also, great grandchildren Piper and Seaver Johnston and Cameron and Keona Bouchard; and several nieces and nephews. She was fortunate to also know her great great grandchildren Hansel Bouchard, Tilly Weyant and Atlas Chapman.

A Celebration of Life for both Ginny and Buster will be held at the family’s convenience.

In lieu of flowers and cards, donations in her name can be made to:
